Cardio the right way

Alex Pintea

For years I have been observing people in the gym doing the same old routine on the treadmill, cross trainer, bicycle or stepper every week. Many of the regulars on these machines are often there comfortably reading the latest magazines, chatting with their friends, watching TV, etc. The result? Take a look at the cardio area of your gym, see how slim these people are, and compare them with the people in the free weights section. You’ll see exactly what I am talking about here. Cardio training certainly has its unquestionable benefits as far as our health goes. Performed intelligently they will also give our weight loss efforts a boost. But the problem with cardio is that most people don’t exercise at the right intensities and have no idea how to optimise exercise intensity to maximize fat loss. The Solution: Cardio training, be it running on the road or rowing at your local gym, works best when you continuously increase the demand on yourself, i.e. overload and when you provide variety in your routine. So, if you are a runner, bring hill running, sprinting, or interval training into your exercise program. Apply this rule to any type of cardio training and you will turbo charge your weight loss efforts.
